چکیده

This paper considers the transient stability enhancement of a power system containing large amounts of solar and wind generation in Japan. Following the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster there has been an increasing awareness on the importance of a distributed architecture, based mainly on renewable generation, for the Japanese power system. Also, the targets of CO2 emissions can now be approached without heavily depending on nuclear generation. Large amounts of renewable generation leads to a reduction in the total inertia of the system because renewable generators are connected to the grid by power converters, and transient stability becomes a significant issue. Simulation results show that sodium-sulfur batteries can keep the system in operation and stable after strong transient disturbances, especially for an isolated system. The results also show how the reduction of the inertia in the system can be mitigated by exploiting the kinetic energy of

Evaluation of Penetration Level of Large-Scale Photovoltaic System on Voltage Stability of Power System

A power system is a nonlinear one. When turbulence occurs in the power system, the stability of the system depends on the initial operating conditions and the nature of the turbulence. Nowadays renewable energy sources including photovoltaic have a key role to meet high demand of modern societies and to maintain voltage of the buses, while they also provide clean electrical energy. However, inc...

The Effect of High Penetration Level of Distributed Generation Sources on Voltage Stability Analysis in Unbalanced Distribution Systems Considering Load Model

Static voltage stability is considered as one of the main issues for primary identification before voltage collapsing in distribution systems. Although, the optimum siting of distributed generation resources in distribution electricity network can play a significant role in voltage stability improving and losses reduction, the high penetration level of them can lead to reduction in the improvem...

Modeling Medium Term Hydroelectric System Operation with Large-scale Penetration of Intermittent Generation

Electricity production from renewable energy sources (RES) is being promoted worldwide as a way to decrease CO2 and pollutant emissions. Nowadays special regime generation in Spain corresponds to cogeneration, renewable and biomass (photovoltaic solar power, wind power, geothermal, small hydro plants, and biomass and waste power plants) and urban and mining waste. Some of these RES are highly i...

Unit Commitment in Presence of Wind Power Plants and Energy Storage

As renewable energy increasingly penetrates into power grid systems, new challenges arise for system operators to keep the systems reliable under uncertain circumstances, while ensuring high utilization of renewable energy. This paper presents unit commitment (UC) which takes into account the volatility of wind power generation. The UC problem is solved with the forecasted intermittent wind pow...
